DetailsWe have designed the best GPA calculator in the US academic system. We have designed this tool to make conversion easier for students and mentors. You can use this GPA calculator with confidence and check your results.
We have provided the most commonly used 4.0 and 4.33 grading systems separately. You can choose your grading system and calculate your GPA accordingly.
We have also added the mock what-if option. You can jump between different scenarios, so you know what you must do to get your desired CGPA. You can save your results and download them in PDF format.
This simple GPA calculator is for everyone who needs an academic conversion:
This tool is designed to help you in calculating your GPA, but it has other uses too:
This tool is straightforward to operate. You can use this calculator by keeping the following steps in mind:
Additionally, to check the future-based GPA needed to acquire a higher CGPA, you can use our what-if option. Just select the option and repeat the above steps.
Important: If your institute follows a different grade mapping, use the custom option to add these values accordingly
Grade point average (GPA) is the measure of your performance in academia. The formula to calculate GPA is:
GPA= ∑(Points × Credits)÷ ∑(Credits)
| Letter | 4.33 Scale | 4.0 Scale |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.33 | 4.0 |
| A | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| A- | 3.67 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 3.33 | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 | 3.0 |
| B- | 2.67 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 2.33 | 2.3 |
| C | 2.0 | 2.0 |
| C- | 1.67 | 1.7 |
| D+ | 1.33 | 1.3 |
| D | 1.0 | 1.0 |
| D- | 0.67 | 0.7 |
| F | 0.00 | 0.00 |
Some degrees add bonus points for advanced-level courses. See the table and add them to the calculation accordingly
| Course Level | Addition |
|---|---|
| AP / IB | +1.0 |
| Honors | +0.5 |
| Regular | +0.00 |
We have provided a reference letter for the percentage-to-letter threshold. Use this as a reference only.
| Letter | Points (Grade 4.00 | Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.0 | 97-100% |
| A | 4.0 | 93-96% |
| A- | 3.7 | 90-92% |
| B+ | 3.3 | 87-89% |
| B | 3.0 | 83-86% |
| B- | 2.7 | 80-82% |
| C+ | 2.3 | 77-79% |
| C | 2.0 | 73-76% |
| C- | 1.7 | 70-72% |
| D+ | 1.3 | 67-69% |
| D | 1.0 | 63-66% |
| D- | 0.7 | 60-62% |
| F | 0.00 | Less than 60% |
Important: This table is for reference only; always use your school’s guidelines
Let’s look at some examples to understand the grading system better.
In the following table, we have added examples to help you better understand.
| Subjects | Credit | Points | Letters | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Maths | 3 | 3.1 | B | 9.3 |
| Physics | 4 | 3.7 | A- | 14.8 |
| Biology | 4 | 3.3 | B+ | 13.2 |
| Literature | 3 | 4.0 | A | 12 |
| 14 | 49.3 |
GPA= ∑(Grade Points ×Credit)÷Total Credits
GPA= 49.3÷14
GPA=3.5
Now, use the above example and calculate the GPA based on Physics is Honors (+0.5) and Biology as AP (+1.0).
Physics 3.7 + 0.5 = 4.2
Biology 3.3 + 1.0 = 4.3
Calculate the GPA again with these changed values and see the uplifting change in the GPA. It gives us the idea of why we should be careful when we are calculating the GPA. Ignoring one simple fact will give you the wrong answer.
The values for A+ grades in these different grading systems can vary slightly. For example, an A+ in physics with a 4.0 scale is 3.94, and a 4.00+ with a 4.33 scale. Make sure you choose the right scale when calculating your GPA to avoid incorrect answers.
This tool can help you calculate the CGPA as well for multiple semesters. Let’s look at the following example:
A student has the following credits obtained:
37 credits obtained with 12 credit hours
39 credits secured with 11 credit hours
The formula:
CGPA= ∑(Credit Points)÷Total Credits
CGPA= ∑(37+39)÷(12+11)
CGPA= 76÷23
CGPA= 3.3
We have been using these terms from the start of our guide; let’s understand properly what they are.
Quality Points=points obtained × credit hours
Students make common mistakes when using our tool. Let’s discuss some and learn how to ignore them:
This tool helps you achieve your goal by calculating what you need to achieve to get to a certain CGPA. Let’s see the following formula and learn what it means.
Let RCGPA = Required CGPA, CGPA = Current GPA, CC = Completed Credits, PC = Planned Credits, TGPA = Target GPA
RCGPA=[(TGPA × (CC+PC))-(CGPA × CC)]÷PC
Let’s take an example of a student who wants to increase their GPA. Some of the important values are as follows:
After giving this information in our GPA calculator, the planner showed that the student needs to achieve 3.95 in this semester.
A student who is standing at 2.80 CGPA in the previous semesters wants to increase his CGPA to 3.2. Let’s see what our GPA calculator tells us about this:
After entering these values in our GPA calculator, it tells us that the student needs to achieve 3.60 in this semester to get to 3.2. Although this calculation looks simple, it has taken into consideration many factors. There was not just the general multiplication, but division was also involved.
This tool has multiple benefits for the user. Let’s investigate some:

Here are some tips that you can use to get the results accurately
Yes, you can enter a percentage, and the GPA calculator will map the percentage to letters.
Yes, our what-if options help in getting the results better by giving you the information about the required SGPA you need to come back.
Yes, you can save or download the results and discuss with anyone you want.
Yes, if your institute’s policy is different for A+, it will impact differently.
The difference can arise from changes in scale, rounding, or P/F handling. Choose the registrar’s scale to get the exact answers.
The only difference is the bonus points added in the weighted subjects while unweighted uses the basic scale.
